Individual Therapy Sessions
Counselling is a supportive process where counsellors help clients better understand themselves, accept their emotions, and grow personally. This journey often involves dealing with complicated feelings and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental space. By looking at different aspects of your life that may be holding you back, we can help you make positive changes and learn healthy coping skills, including techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Our approach focuses on your values, compassion, creativity, and overall well-being, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.
Each session lasts 50 minutes, and collaboration is fundamental to our treatment planning. We believe that therapy is most effective when clients have the freedom to determine their own path forward. Our aim is to empower clients by drawing on their strengths, values, and inner wisdom to foster clarity, growth, and meaningful change. I prioritize what’s important to you—your strengths, values, and finding effective solutions. Together, we aim to help you lead a fulfilling life, even in the face of challenges, heal from past trauma, manage daily stress, and practice mindfulness. This is a safe space for you to express and be yourself while gaining clarity and direction.
*Please note: We are unable to bill directly at this time. However, most insurance companies accept our receipts for reimbursements.
What is it? Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of therapy that aims to increase psychological flexibility – the ability to stay in contact with the present moment and choose behaviors in line with one’s values, even when faced with difficult thoughts and feelings. This approach is often utilized in individual therapy sessions and incorporates elements of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Suggested Free Resources: Free Resources from Dr. Russ Harris.
What is it? Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) combines elements of mindfulness practice and cognitive behavioral therapy to help individuals develop greater awareness and acceptance of their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. This approach is designed to cultivate resilience, much like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and can be effectively utilized in individual therapy sessions. What is it? Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a strength-based approach that emphasizes solution-building rather than problem-solving. SFBT focuses on current circumstances and future aspirations, similar to the principles found in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Unlike traditional individual therapy sessions that may dwell on present problems and past causes, SFBT encourages clients to envision a positive future. This forward-thinking strategy aligns well with Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, as it promotes a proactive mindset.

"We are taught many treatment types, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, but what works depends on who the client is and what they connect with most. Individual therapy sessions can be combined and adjusted based on your needs and comfort. In the end, we want to see progress no matter how small; you will be accepted for who you are, supported, and learn how to improve thoughts, manage feelings, and change behaviors." -Chelsea
