What is it?
Walk-and-Talk therapy offers counselling while walking outdoors. You may choose to participate in Walk-and-Talk counselling if you and the counsellor agree it would be beneficial. Please inquire about Walk-and-Talk therapy during your 15 minute complimentary consultation or at any point during your therapeutic journey.
What to Expect:
-After an initial discussion and agreement to book a walk-and-talk session, we will then meet at the walk-and-talk location. We will take a moment before our walk to discuss the goals of the session
- Sessions will be 50 minutes while walking side-by-side in a park. You set the pace.
-Walk-and-Talk provides all the regular benefits of a counselling session with the added benefit of physical activity, nature, fresh air and a unique experience.
We will be walking outdoors for 50 minutes in all sorts of weather. It is important to have comfortable walking shoes and to have weather appropriate clothing. A water bottle is also recommended.
Participating in Walk and Talk Counselling involves therapeutic interventions in a public setting. There is the possibility that other people may hear part of the conversation. I will do my best to preserve your confidentiality while in session. For instance, we might pause the conversation for a bit to do a mindfulness exercise. If your practicioner sees someone they know, they won't acknowledge you or the session to keep your information private. You can also ask to change the format of future sessions whenever you want. We can discuss this further in consultation.
Yes! If your dog stays on a leash, is friendly, polite and not aggressive of a source of distraction to you in your counselling session, then bring them along! They will also benefit from a moment in nature.
Yes, this is your counselling session. Please ensure they are dressed for the weather and not a source of distraction to your counselling session.
Walk and talk counselling is for everyone! No matter your fitness level or mobility, we can be outside, moving in nature together. You set the pace of the walk and I follow. I choose parks that have benches for pauses and rests. People with reduced mobility or who use wheelchairs welcome.
Walk and talk is in all season, however if the weather will affect the benefit of your counselling we can switch to an online/virtual session. Please let me know at least 2 hours before your session that you want to switch it. If I note the weather is too hazardous, I will offer a virtual session or to rebook at another time.
We will only walk in parks with accessible bathrooms or port a potties.
Currently, I offer sessions at Robert Cotton Park in Stratford and the Confederation trail by the PEI Humane Society. I am open to suggestions of locations in the Charlottetown and Stratford areas that are safe for both client and counsellor.
